Schools

Overview

FBE Schools believes that the traditional method of education used in most schools is based on a system of oppression designed to maintain the status quo. To meet the needs of today’s children and society’s future needs, we must provide children with an education that fosters independence, develops problem-solvers, and promotes the importance of each individual’s contribution to the universe in which we live and work. We work with our communities to provide anti-biased and anti-racist Montessori schools that develop children who are lifelong learners, seekers of the truth, and fearless advocates for justice.

The Difference

According to Dr. Maria Montessori and the Assocition Montessori International (AMI), the first three years of life are the most fundamental in the development of human beings and their potential. It is a period when the core of personality, social skills, and human values are developed. An understanding of the child's development allows Montessori environments to meet the needs of the infant and foster a sense of belonging, independence, and language acquisition enabling children to feel able and capable. Montessori infant-toddler programmes from birth to 3, are provided in several different formats. The first school supported by The Foundation for Black Excellence will open in Oakland, California in early 2024 and will begin with the Infant Community: Children from approximately fourteen months to three years. The focus is on developing movement, language, and independence within a social context. There are several characteristics that set our preschool apart from traditional schools:
